Trauma & Abuse Therapy
Trauma & Abuse Therapy is offered free of charge by our experienced and qualified therapists. Trauma therapy is a flexible method adapted to individual need.
It consists of thorough, effective techniques to bring about lasting change without the need of recalling traumatic experiences. We explore triggers and negative beliefs. Victims of traumatic experiences may have irrational fears or flashbacks. We build coping strategies to enable the client to deal with current situations that previously overwhelmed them. Clients establish techniques they can practice when a situation starts to feel uncomfortable, thus allowing them to live more independently and within expected societal parameters.
Victims of abuse often learn coping strategies that are necessary to keep themselves safe and/or able to deal with their abuser. The strategies adopted whilst in an abusive relationship may not be transferable to living a life free from the abuse.
The client may have taken drugs or self-harmed, they may have had to reprimand the children in line with the abusers orders. Trauma therapy enables clients to start to overcome their traumatic experiences and start to live more comfortably both in themselves and in their community
Some testimonials from those who have attended:
‘ I felt whole for the first time in her entire life’.
‘I was so terrified of so many things and too frightened to look back. With my therapists help I was able to reconnect with my fears and change them into something positive. There came a point during my sessions when I thought there would be no end to such terror and fear, that I would not be able to resolve my issues, and I knew I needed to continue my sessions. I have never fully trusted anyone, so this was very scary for me, I was so scared that she would leave me and that I was just too much for anyone to help. My therapist has been my role model, she taught me how to build my own level of understanding, how to look after myself and in doing so, how to connect with my beautiful girls. I am now able to share my feelings with my partner so that I can handle life as an adult, I feel very honoured that I have been given such a chance’.
‘ My therapist has helped me to really and truly put the past in the past, and not relive it again and again. I now feel unique, but as good as anyone else. I can hold my head up!’
‘I didn’t think I would be able to trust anyone this much to be able to work with them.’
‘I am linked up and back in control’
‘without them I would have been locked in a painful, self punishing life. Its been an amazing journey!’
