PanicGuard

PanicGuard is the first app to be approved by Crimestoppers & endorsed by the National Mobile Crime Unit.

Users of PanicGuard can activate the app when they feel that they are in danger by shaking their smartphone. The app can track the location of the user, record video and audio and send an alert to the user’s emergency contacts & is available in a number of languages.

If the app is shaken again it emits a loud alarm sound and turns on the flash on the mobile handset. The app can be deactivated only by entering a security code.

PanicGuard constantly uploads the data it collects so that if an attacker or a stalker steals or destroys the phone the evidence will still be available from the company’s servers. The app can also operate in ‘stealth mode’ for situations where someone wants to get help without alerting, for example, an abusive partner.

Crimestoppers – Tackling Domestic Abuse in Suffolk

Crimestoppers have launched a campaign to Tackle Domestic Abuse in Suffolk  in conjunction with Lighthouse reassuring the residents of Suffolk that it is safe to speak out about it.

Crimestoppers hopes to break the cycle of domestic abuse by encouraging more people to contact us anonymously through the 0800 555 111 number or their Anonymous Online Form.

Antonia Litten, Regional Manager for Crimestoppers in Suffolk says ‘We want more people to speak out if they know someone is being abused. We know it’s not always an easy thing to do but Crimestoppers offers the public the chance to give information anonymously. We don’t take personal details and we don’t record calls. We can’t trace calls or information given online. Those who contact us don’t have to give a statement to police or go to court.’

White Ribbon Campaign

The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is inspired by The White Ribbon Pledge lead by men who campaign to stop domestic abuse against women, that runs for a two week period from 25th November every year.

Domestic abuse statistics show that 70% of incidents result in injury and that on average, two women in England and Wales are killed by a partner every week. But what does wearing a white ribbon really mean? It says loud and clear that you will never condone, take part in or remain silent about domestic abuse against women.

The men involved in WRC do not believe that violence is inherent in men carrying out the abuse. Instead they believe that it is became a learned of expressing anger and to some extent has become acceptable to behave in this manner.

Today the WRC has become an event concentrating on raising awareness about the impact of domestic abuse, on both men and women and their families. Domestic abuse is a societal issue affecting 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men.

WDVAF has stands and information on services available in various locations throughout Waveney & Suffolk Coastal, for the duration of the two week campaign.
